My Movie Review – “Girlfriend Experience”

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Been quite busy lately, and I will admit that Twitter has made me somewhat of a lazy blogger! It’s a shame I know, but at least it’s a good way of keeping up with what I am doing. Like I was saying on there I am pretty excited for this upcoming week with some big conventions in town. This past Monday-Tuesday I was actually quite bored and had some down time, which I took the opportunity to watch “Girlfriend Experience”. I had heard some good words about it and since it was Steven Soderbergh, I figured it was worth a watch.

First of all I liked the way it was shot. The photography of the film is dark and rich in colors, which is something I always like in photography in general. Some of the out of focus shots I liked but one in particular shot in a bar scene was more annoying than artistic, but the nice contrast and feel in colors throughout the film I enjoyed.

The one thing I always have a hard time with shows about escorts or prostitutes is the believability of the characters and of the script. I feel the same disconnection when I watch Secret Diary of a Call Girl as well (which I need to watch on my DVR the new season 3!), and almost watch these shows or films as complete fiction and imagine a man wrote the screenplays. Some things that I found frustrating in the film was the poor acting by Sasha Grey despite the good reviews on the cover (I know those are always slanted). She came across as this emotionless, dull, and an easily manipulated character. At first I thought they were trying to portray her as a smart independent escort then I came to realize that she was written as a clueless, emotionless drone who let people tell her what to do and how to do her job, and believed every word they said. That disturbed me (especially the parts with the manipulative hobbyist that we’ve all read on message boards), since she fell into the trap of his game of trying to increase her traffic from websites or message boards. It shows these types of people that if you play games like the hobbyist did maybe the girl will actually be dumb enough to fall for their scheme. The line where he said, “I don’t think you realize what I can do for you” made me literally laugh out loud because I have heard silly lines like this all the time. Makes me respond, “I don’t think you realize what I can do for myself!”

Other things I thought were a misrepresentation were the listing of outfits and brand names like we are all very materialistic hookers only concerned with how much we can spend on name brands for the clients (most girls I know buy the expensive bags and shoes just for themselves to feed their shopaholic side not to flaunt to the client). In fact I have had some clients say, “I like girls who dress up and look like nice, normal women, but when I see a girl overly dressed in high end fashion it makes me feel less comfortable”, but of course to each their own. Another unrealistic thing is the screening process she went through with client from the website. Are you married? How many children do you have? I would have probably hung up on her immediately. Men want to escape to someone else’s company, not feel guilty about their personal life at home.

Seems like I am being quite negative about the film, but the very emotionless attitude of the main escort’s character bugged me as if to say we are all somewhat miserable and bored, and can’t be a happy cheery escort providing a service to people. The one part I did identify with the film was the way the conversations between her and some of the clients went. Most people like to vent and have someone listen, which I do a lot of, but I also enjoy participating in the conversation and seem interested than just sit there saying, “Yea, uh huh” every so often like she did.

So in conclusion, I think it’s a good stab at making a film that was about an escort’s life but fell pretty short. The cinematography was quality but the script and screening of actors could have used some work. I wish I could sit in and help Hollywood make a decent, realistic film… maybe one day 🙂

My Review Of Secret Diary Of A Call Girl

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

So I found another recording of the first episode and waited for the second episode to record so I could watch them both and give my little opinion on here.

So what did I think? I think that it seems a bit unrealistic. I have not read the books, I admit (I am terrible about finishing books! Hard to when you may get a call to go to a hotel in the middle of things then I forget what happened) but the first episode goes along with what I think most men hope and dream of happening with a prostitute: they want the girl to like them and enjoy them or fall for them. Its what I think a vast majority of my clients wish and hope to happen. If that wasn’t the case then I wouldn’t have people say things like “I’m not a fat disgusting man I am ‘attractive’ and ‘nice’ ”. Anyway I got the feeling that the show was going towards that direction in the first scenes. So far the only thing that I have identified with is the first part where she is passing through a hotel and onto the elevators. I think the same thing in my head, “walk quickly, don’t draw attention, and look like you know where you’re going”. Sometimes I tend to wander half aimlessly like a silly tourist would through the casinos. The actress who plays Belle, Billie Piper, I first thought was a bad choice for the main character. I am glad to see during the second episode she seems to get more into the role and loosens up and becomes more of a believable character. Over acting kind of spoiled it for me in the first episode.

Maybe I am a silly ol’ American but I really had to rewind some parts due to the mumbling of lines mixed in with a British accent made things hard to understand. Look forward to seeing some of the future episodes to see how things progress! I’ll try and update my thoughts..

Had a good night last night and what are good nights usually followed by? Slow, boring nights. At least I made a few hundred so far and I think to myself… it could be worse, I could be making $10 an hour.

Diary Of A Callgirl Premiere And A Las Vegas Regular

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Whew back from another mini-trip. Hopefully this return back home will be better than last time.

While driving around LA last weekend, I had seen that the new Showtime series for “Secret Diary of A Call Girl” was starting up. Loved the billboards on the side of the road along with an ad for the new “Weeds” season… sexy for sure.
Pretty interested in seeing it and I have my recorder set for Monday. Didn’t know till I was reading around that the series had aired in the UK and was imported here unedited. Good… hate it when they do that.

Anyway.. glad to see and hear that this actually went off. I read Belle du Jour’s blog for a long time and was quite interested in seeing how all of this panned out. I actually ran across her book while in an erotic book store in the Northwest this past week. Almost bought it but then a slew of rare erotic photo books caught my eye and had put it back. Amazon will have to do then.

I forgot to mention before my previous little trip at the end of May I ventured up to the Bay Area and thought of calling a regular customer of mine who comes to Vegas for meetings quite a bit. He said to call him if I ever was needing cash or visiting nearby to meet up for the usual amount he pays but would get a room and pay for a flight if necessary. Apparently my blow jobs work some sort of “miracle” for him so he spends quite a bit. I decided to take him up on the offer and it actually worked out and fit time into both of our schedules. Trip was paid for at the start.. awesome! It does bug me that since I have seen him more than twice that he thinks I will suddenly become relaxed on my rules for being safe and clean. Just because I “know” him now doesn’t mean I am going to risk myself so he feels better. It makes me angered on the inside that men risk themselves and their own partner to get an unprotected bj or something more just so they can feel better. People should feel ashamed but.. of course they don’t.

Christmas Is Over And I Am Back In Vegas

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Well I know its been a while and I really hate that I got behind on my blog. I just got through reading some of my comments and glad to see I was missed! hehe. Everything has been better and I usually go out of town in December for a bit of a break to go see family and such. Plus December just *blows* (no pun intended!) I have often bailed out of Vegas for the past few years after the Rodeo leaves town because it dies down so bad that you end up spending more on gas or just food a day than you are making. I’d rather spend that boring time with family and friends! This year right after Rodeo started there was this odd phenomenon of a fight weekend. Usually big boxing matches bring the creme de la creme of whatever nationality the fighters are. If its a Latin fighter it’s like the Mexican invasion. If it’s two people like Mayweather and Holyfield, it gets pretty ghetto and crazy around town. The fight the first weekend of December was Mayweather versus Hatton who is an English boy who is some sort of home town hero. I wondered if any males from the UK were even left over there that weekend because it seemed like they all hopped on a plane and went to Vegas. I was running around like a mad man for 3 days. The time change for them made my schedule wacky! It would be dead and a doornail around 9pm-4am and then it was non stop calls until 4pm the next day.Girls always talk about their best and worst nationality of customers (I’ve even rated it on my old blog). My opinion of the English? Totally hit or miss as far as making money. South English (Londoners and other cities in the south) generally spend some good cash because heck.. the American dollar is poor! They get more for their money! Northern English (Birmingham, Manchester… which it seems Hatton was from up north) are generally cheap and can be pretty aggressive. So it was like a huge swing that weekend. It was either good money or nothing. Sorry but I don’t have an hour all inclusive session for $200. I think Mexico is about that much these days. hehAnyway I must hustle the next few days. New Years Eve in Vegas is nuts and can’t really work until 5am when the Strip reopens. I will try and not drink in the mean time… ha ha!
