It has a setting to make it so all comments have to be approved but that really makes legitimate people not want to comment and participate if they aren't sure it will even make the cut... so I use a plugin that comes with Wordpress to filter out spammers. It usually works great but lately a few have gotten through, although it also learns as it goes and I've added those spammers to Wordpress' known spammer list. This is why I am on LiveJournal. Does Wordpress have the ability to screen all anonymous comments first? My blog at Livejournal does.
